The PATHS-UP Innovation Seed Fund was established to enable the funding of faculty and student- led innovation projects that aligned with the vision and mission of PATHS-UP. The Innovation Ecosystem Team, under the advice of the Industry and Practitioner Advisory Board (IPAB) and approved by the Executive leadership team of PATHS-UP, created the fund with the intention of supporting PATHS-UP’s goal. The Innovation Seed Fund provides an opportunity for PATHS-UP faculty and student members to explore new technologies and ideas with that support PATHS-UP’s technical focus areas. From developing new technology to addressing problem statements, the PATHS-UP Innovation Seed Fund has helped support numerous projects that have had a positive impact on the PATHS-UP community. 

For the faculty awards of $25,000 each were granted to the following:

Drs. Hu, Ozcan, Lin – Lensless on-chip meta-sensor for multiplexed CVD biomarker detection (UCLA – TAMU collaboration)
Drs. Han, Eryilmaz, Joung – Development of dual-mode (chemiluminescence and colorimetric) vertical flow assay for high-performance point-of-care testing of multiplexed CVD biomarkers (UCLA)
Drs. Sasangohar & Sabharwal  – Investigating the efficacy of mobile health digital coaching to improve diabetes outcomes (TAMU – Rice collaboration)
Drs. Kostrna, Ramella, and Palacios  – Assessment of wearable activity monitors wearables in individuals with obesity (FIU)

For the students awards of $5,000 each were granted to the following:

Jacey Henrichs – Mobile Applications for Diabetes Self-management and Social Support. (TAMU)

Borzooye Jafarizadeh, Azmal Chowdhury, Morgan Brinson, & Emi Sato – Smart Shoe: Acquiring full pulse waveform from the foot to enable blood pressure measurement (FIU – Rice collaboration)
