PATHS-UP Faculty Member Dr. Sung II Park and his research team were recently featured in a news article involved in the development of a wireless device offering treatment for colorectal cancer.
For those diagnosed with colorectal cancer, surgery has been the only option that offers a solution. Unfortunately, surgery is frequently complicated by disease recurrence at the site of the original cancer when microscopic cancer cells are left behind at the time of surgery. Researchers have designed a device that can destroy colorectal cancer cells using photodynamic therapy techniques. This, when used alongside surgery, can reduce the need for additional treatments.
