Five-year Degree Program: Masters in Public Health and B.S. in Engineering

To prepare public health professionals with abilities to integrate technological advances into community health programs, PATHS-UP will develop a new five-year degree program in which students will earn a Bachelor’s of science in engineering and Master’s in public health (MPH). The program will recruit highly motivated engineering undergraduates (UGs) who are interested in applying their capabilities to public health, with an emphasis on underserved areas. The program is designed to allow students to gain practical experience in public health, which will prepare them to enter the job market when they graduate with the dual degree in just five years. Students admitted to this program will start taking graduate level classes during their senior year. UG students will be required to work closely with their UG college advisers and School of Public Health (SPH) graduate level advisers to plan their schedules to make sure that the coursework required for the bachelor’s degree and MPH is completed at the appropriate time. The SPH and the College of Engineering at TAMU will collaborate to initiate a program that will serve as a model for partner institutions and other universities to replicate.
